Stephen Buhagiar was born in 1975. Throughout his life, Stephen has always been fascinated by images and how the world is represented through the eyes of others. He was drawn to photography by a colleague and friend at work who saw Stephen keen to learn the art of photography. After taking a Beginners Course in Photography at the Malta Photographic Society, Stephen delved into the world of photography and it became a means through which he could reveal himself by being behind the camera. His images reveal his soul. Stephen draws inspiration from the world around him and believes the power behind an image comes from the delicate play between light, space and emotion. Stephen has won various competitions both locally and internationally, and was awarded both the EFIAP by the International Federation of Photographic Art for his excellency in his photographic works and the FMPS (fellowship by the Malta Photographic Society) in homage to his efforts and techniques in the field of Photographic Art and to his success in International and other local Competitions held under the Patronage of the same Society. In his works, Stephen tries to capture almost everything such as architecture, street photography, landscapes and still life. Stephen participated in various local photographic exhibitions and is the owner and co-founder of the artistic project titled ‘The People of Malta’ www.facebook.com/thepeopleofmalta.
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. It’s about reacting to what I see. When a moment in front of me appears to be particulary special, whether it be by beauty or experience, I capture it. It’s my hope that my photography sheds light onto what I see.”
